It was great to be invited to this years Proms on the Prom and nice that the local lads, Richard and Adam, would be there and Blazing Minds would get to meet them during the afternoon. But before we get on to that, let’s not forget the other artists that took part in this years Proms on the Prom which amassed a huge crowd to enjoy several hours of music from some amazing artists.
The events kicked off at midday and by this time the crowd was growing and it was only going to get bigger, the sun was out and some of the artists, including Richard and Adam were doing their sound checks. I arrived and grabbed my Access All Areas for myself and the rest of the Blazing Minds time, ready to hook up with them shortly.
So at midday, the first act took to the stage and started to afternoons entertainment. 13 year-old Bethan Thomkins wowed the crowd with her performance as she opened up Proms on the Prom, what an amazing voice for someone so young, reminded me of a young Charlotte Church.
On to a local Prestatyn duo, Hot Foot Jazz, now these guys had the crowd ready for more than just the operatic side of the days entertainments and the duo really were fantastic.
After a short break it was time for Piantel to take to the stage with a slightly longer set with Annette and Dylan performing wonderfully with piano and harp, two instruments that worked beautifully together.
Sioned Terry followed to bring more entertainment from the world of operatics with her fantastic voice reaching out to the crowd, which was now getting even bigger and it looked like it was getting bigger than last years.
Rhyl Merion melted the hearts of the audience with his rather moving piece about a young Soldier in WW1 writing home to his father, at his point the umbrellas came out as the rain began to fall, maybe to join in with the tears that were in the eyes of some of the members of the audience.
Another short break and the clouds began to clear, the rain stopped and then local lads, Richard and Adam took to the stage to roars of applause, what amazing voices, they were outstanding and after their set, I popped back stage to catch up with them for a quick chat and a couple of photographs, suffice to say they were over the moon to be back performing in this years Proms on the Prom.
Then it was back to the front of the stage for me as head-liners Collabro took to the stage, a 5 piece musical theatre act and winners of Britain’s Got Talent, they were very good and their performance of Let It Go from the Disney film Frozen certainly went down extremely well with the audience which had now grown to around 12,000 people during the day, fantastic.
Overall this years Proms on the Prom in Rhyl was another successful free event, where else would you get great acts like this in one big arena for FREE, congratulations to all the artists that took part in the day and hats off to the organisers of the event for putting on such an amazing day for everyone to enjoy.

The weekend’s events proved to be very successful. The Proms on the Prom is an established event that attracts thousands each year and the quality of the acts this year did not disappoint. Proms on The Prom event, hosted on Sunday, attracted around 12,000 people to the events arena and the Blazing Minds team were proud to have been asked to cover the event and to meet up with some very talented artists.
