We had a trip back to the 80s last night all courtesy of The Tivoli in Buckley and Thompson Twins frontman, Tom Bailey.
The evening kicked off with support from Buckley lad, Robbie Donaldson, who got the evening off to a great start with his acoustic set, a lot of his fans seemed to be there for him as well as the crowd went wild after his set.
After a short break, the stage was being made ready for Tom Bailey to take the stage, you could feel the excitement around the room at The Tivoli.
A wave of cheers and screams erupted from the audience as the smoke machines were set up and then turned on, producing an eerie feel to a building already known as being extremely haunted.
As I stood waiting for the show to begin, I couldn’t wait to see Tom’s performance, then to top it all we got the news that we could have chat and some photos with him after the show, could it get any better, well yes it could!
The music started, the smoke machines carried on giving us the eerie feel, the light show started and Tom Bailey came to the stage, wow! The audience went wild, this was going to be a night to remember.
Tom Bailey Shines at The Tivoli
A few people told me that had travelled miles to see Tom’s performance, one couple had travelled four hours to get to Buckley for the gig, now that is a passion for Tom Bailey’s music and in my humble point of view, it was well worth it for them, they loved the show, singing to all the Thompson Twins hits throughout the night.
Growing up in the 80s myself, I was a big fan of the Thompson twins, so being asked to work with The Tivoli on this one was a dream come true, not only that I was in the pit doing the photography so even better, Tom certainly still has that voice that he had with the Thompson Twins back in 80s, he can still reach those notes that some of the tracks call for and boy oh boy, did the crowd go wild when he did.

Not only was it his voice, he still has the showmanship during a performance and he came down from the stage on several occasions to work the crowd, we even had a huge inflatable ball bouncing around from the stage to the audience area, it kind of reminded me of those strange balls from the 60s TV show The Prisoner.
With his keyboard playing, guitar work, electronic tomtom drums and his vocals, the night was electric, we were treated to the tracks Doctor Doctor, Hold Me Now, Â You Take Me Up and my favourite Love On Your Side.
Tom Bailey’s performance at The Tivoli was an outstanding one, his backing band were fantastic. It’s so great to see an artist from your childhood that still has what it takes to be a top performer and Tom certainly is an artist that not only still puts on an amazing show, but still loves what he does and so do his fans. Everyone I spoke to after the show really enjoyed the evening.
So that only leaves me left to say a massive thansk to The Tivoli for letting Blazing Minds work with them during the event and to Tom Bailey for an outstanding performance and for letting Blazing Minds be part of the night. If you get a chance to see Tom Baily on tour, then go see him, it’s a night you won’t regret or forget.
