It was back to the Rhyl Pavilion theatre tonight and a return to watching live performances in our local theatre and what a show to return back the theatre reviewing with as I started back with Back To Broadway, a show that has been voted the UK’s No. 1 Musical Theatre Show.
Back To Broadway is the all-singing, all-dancing, theatrical sensation that invites the audience on a breathtaking journey through the magical world of musicals and promising a night of pure entertainment. The show, now in its 4th successful year, is back with this stunning new performance for 2015.
Back To Broadway Non-Stop Entertainment
We were treated to a great collection of the songs that everyone knows and loves from the world’s greatest musicals, starting the show with music from the Lion King and in particular The Circle of Life a spellbinding and captivating opening to the evening. We were also treated to music from Les Misérables, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Dirty Dancing and many more magical musical numbers.
All the performances were brought to the Rhyl Pavilion’s stage with choreography of not just the performances but nicely choreographed performances from the lighting to give a wonderful atmosphere to the musical pieces that were being performed.
Les Misérables use of lighting, such as the spots, to move around the front of the stage to pick the performers as well as the complete stage as the cast moved and stopped to give you a feeling that the French revolution was indeed happening right there.
The same went for Miss Saigon, as the sound team brought the world of Vietnam to the Rhyl Pavillion’s stage, very moving and effective.
I have to say that the evening’s performance was a joy to watch, I’m not a massive fan of musicals, those that I have seen I have enjoyed, but having a show like this, certainly makes you want to see some of the shows that are out there, it’s kind of like a teaser to what you may be missing, I certainly want to see Wicked now.
Something that really stood out to me was the range that Aston Dobson has, his vocal performance of those high and low notes was great, but all the cast were equally good in the rolls from the musicals that they played, Freddie Huddleston also did a great job with the choreography.
Along with the rest if the cast, Gina Price, Kayleigh Ross, Eddie Kaziro, Francesca Swarbrick and Dario Cacioppo on the stage the evening was entertaining, although for me the first half did seem a little drawn out, but that could have just been me not being a big fan of Phantom of the Opera, but the second half was more upbeat and fun, the second half is also where the audience were participating a lot more.
Overall a fun and entertaining night and I do have to agree with Aston with his talk to the audience at the end, it is great to see people going to local theatres and keeping them alive. I do love an evening at the theatre and having a live performance with audience participation is what makes the nights so much worth being part of.
