Revenge! Something that runs through the heart of a lot of movies these days, one of the latest movies to have a character out for justice was John Wick 2, a movie that I loved when I reviewed it back in February and it’s not taken that long to get released on Blu-ray and DVD.
The previous movie I came upon by accident one night while skipping through the channels on Sky and it blew me away, the second one was just as good, if not better, now it’s just a waiting game for the third film to be released, I can’t wait. But in the meantime, let’s take a look at some of the other revenge movies that cinema goers have enjoyed over the years.
Gladiator (2000)
Betrayal and murder are what sparks the revenge seeking Maximus after Commodus, son of the Roman Emperor, starts to dismantle his life piece-by-piece. Commodus is a boy angered by his father’s decision to make Maximus heir to his empire, and so he acts out by murdering in cold blood both his wife and son.
The vulnerable Maximus is then captured by a slave trader who trains him up to be a gladiator. However, the resilient Maximus realises this is an opportunity to fight his way to the Coliseum, where he can be face-to-face with Commodus once again, and with the plan to end his life the way he ended his family’s.
