Some time back you may have remembered me posting an introduction to a book that I had been sent to review called The Golden Prince by Rebecca Dean, well, now is the time to bring you the review of the book, yes I know it’s taken a while, but with my busy schedule going on, it has taken a little longer than I anticipated 😉
As I mentioned in the introduction to the book, it does mix fact with fiction and to be honest it does it extremely well, so I’ll try to bring you my thoughts, without giving too much away about the book.
I’ve always been one for the fantasy world when it comes to books, I’m a big fan of Terry Pratchett, C.S. Lewis and Douglas Adams, you know the type of books I mean, I’m also big in to graphic novels such as The Crow, Dark City and Watchmen etc. So a book such as this one was something really different for me and a complete change to the genres that I am so accustomed to reading.
Having an open mind to the world always helps and reading a genre which was quite honestly out of my comfort zone was going to b a bit of challenge for me, but, I really enjoyed the book. I think by having something that was different gave me the incentive to keep reading and the fact that the book is mix of fact and fiction cleverly entwined together made it even more so.
It all starts in 1911 when Edward VIII was a young prince raised by a harsh disciplinarian King George V. The story of a prince, a glamorous socialite and a tragic romance fated to change the course of history.
Overall the book is rather intriguing, though, I have to say, it’s not one of those books that I could pick up again quickly and read again, don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy reading the book and I will read again in time, but not soon.
If you do enjoy a good yarn about royalty , then this is for you and with the marriage of William and Kate later this year, this will probably whet the appetites of those looking for something to read and enjoy about royalty and who they can and can’t marry, though that may have seriously changed in recent years!
