We’re Celebrating 10 years of Entertainment this September
On September the 4th Blazing Minds will be celebrating its 10th Birthday, or should that be Blogoversary. The site started back in 2008 and since then there have been so many changes in the 10 years from the look of the site to where the site has been hosted, so we’re going to take a look at some of the popular articles some of the events and photographs we’ve taken during them and what the future holds for the Award-Winning website.
Blazing Minds – The Early Years
Back when I started the website, it was purely to see what all the fuss was about with blogging, so as you can imagine the posts were short and far and few between when it came to updates, but as time went on and I was enjoying blogging more, the site was being updated more frequently, but I still didn’t know which direction I would be taking the blog and so from 2008 – 2011 not much was really happening and then in August 2011, I went to the cinema and wrote a short review for Captain America: The First Avenger, this was seen by one of the team at the cinema and I became a resident reviewer and that was the start of Blazing Minds becoming what you now see today.
It wasn’t only the cinema, the local theatres, Venue Cymru, Theatr Colwyn and Rhyl Pavilion, caught what I was doing and in turn, they asked if I would review their shows, I had to develop my blogging skills as I was writing so more than I used to, I also had to make the move to writing longer posts and learning that there is more to blogging than just writing, there is also the SEO side and the use of creating links to other articles on and off the blog.
As time went on I got a big break in the world of events, when I had the chance to give some coverage to the Sci-Fi Weekender when they had moved from Prestatyn to Pwllheli in 2013, this was a massive undertaking, as I had never done such a big event, but wow, what an opportunity to get the chance to work with an amazing team of people and become one of the ever-growing “SFW Family“, I’m now also able to bring reader “official” photographs from the SFW events that I have taken.
Being able to take some exclusive photographs is a real honour, it’s hard to believe that I’ve now been doing the Sci-Fi Weekender events every year since and am really looking forward to the Sci-Fi Weekender 10th anniversary with is next year.
The SFW events have also given me the chance to meet, photograph and work with some amazing people over the years, many of which I have become friends with, there is nothing better than going to an event and bumping into people you know and having a chat with them before they have to either go on stage or head to the signing booths, just brilliant.
I’m still doing all the film review as well, working closely with the brilliant team at the Scala in Prestatyn and with the team at RealD 3D for 3D releases, but it’s not only cinema, I’m also working with the likes of Warner Bros., Lionsgate, Eureka Entertainment, Universal Pictures and many more to bring the home releases and previews to the Blazing Minds readers.
Blazing Minds – Award-Winning Website
So with building up the website’s reputation for honest reviews and working very hard on the sites official social media the next step was being recognised for the effort put into the website and 2015 myself and the website was truly honoured with being entered into and winning a UK Blog Award in 2015, sadly I couldn’t make it to the awards ceremony in London, but suffice to say that when it was announced that Blazing Minds had won an award for “Individual Events Category“, there was plenty of screaming and running around the house.
This honour lead to even more for the website as PR’s were getting in touch with me to do stuff and they have been a staple diet for the competitions that we now run on Blazing Minds, although there were the downsides with Twitter Trolls etc, but sometimes people can be mean to you, the best thing to do is just shrug them off and not let them get to you, which believe me can be very hard to do.
Blazing Minds has also being listed in the Top 10 UK Film Blogs at Vuelio, Top 100 Movie Blogs, Top 10 UK Movie Blogs And Websites To Follow in 2018, one of the 10 Best UK Blogs, Top Popular Blogs to Follow in 2018.
We’ve also had the chance to head to awards as well, last year we were invited to the very first HRH Awards, the chance to mix with the stars, discover Cloven Hoof Rum and get some photographs of some amazing acts including the amazing Dee Snider!

Blazing Minds 10th Anniversary – What’s Next?
I’m hoping to keep going for another 10 years (fingers crossed), Blazing Minds now has some great writers that have come aboard to bring even more news, reviews and more for the readers of the website, the site has moved to a faster server and thanks to Deva Hosting and hopefully, at some point, we can get the Official Blazing Minds Twitter verified, surely 10 years of bringing reviews etc to our readers Twitter will finally hit that magically switch.
