Hickory’s Smokehouse Rhos on Sea Review

Before its opening, you would have seen me tweeting from the new Hickory’s Smokehouse in Rhos-on-Sea, during a special VIP night. So I thought we should have a review.

Even though Hickory’s wasn’t open until the end of the week, beginning of following week we were invited up there to see them and to try out their rather delicious food.

Hickory’s A Smell Of Success

Before even entering the building, you can smell the delicious aroma from the kitchens in Hickory’s, after we parked the car, our taste buds began to quiver in anticipation of the food cooking.

We were greeted with a lovely smile as we entered and after we gave our names we were told where the bar was and to grab ourselves a drink while our table was sorted for us, suffice to say I just had to try their Ale and it was absolutely delicious.

The bar staff were extremely helpful with letting us know what was available and asked if we had been to a Hickory’s before, then proceeded to give us some mouth-watering advice on the what was on the menu.

After a rather short wait and chat, we were asked if we would like to make our way to our table, which was ready for us to enjoy our meals.

Hickory’s Menu Spoilt Us For Choice

I have to say that the Hickory’s menu is laden with some wonderful sounding meals, but after talking to the bartender, we just had to go with the “Burnt Ends“, they sounded delicious, they didn’t let us down, they were superb. I just could help tweeting about them!

Each “Burnt End” was like eating a piece of heaven, so tender and each one bursting with flavour, you don’t put these in your mouth and chew, you savour each one and allow them to just melt in your mouth and dipping them in the BBQ sauce just adds to the taste sensation. I would have loved seconds!

As if they wasn’t enough it was then time to move on to the main course, now we both opted for the “BBQ Pulled Pork“, that came with chips, coleslaw. You also have the option of adding a “side order” to your meal, Lee opted for the corn on the cob and I went with the Baby Caesar Salad (thinking it would be a small side order!).

Again, I couldn’t help tweet out the main meal when it arrived, the BBQ Pulled Pork is served in a “mess tins” with BBQ Beans beside it and in a BBQ sauce, the chips in a tin mug and the coleslaw in a wooden dish and all brought to you on a wooden platter.

You know you food is on the way as well, just before the waitress brought the food around the corner I could smell the pulled pork and the smoked odour, so my mouth was watering before it even got to the table.

Now I have to admit, I didn’t eat it all, it was so filling, the Baby Caesar Salad threw me, I was expecting a small bowl, but it came in a huge bowl, enough for two people, but the pulled pork was out of this world, I fought to eat as much as I could because it was just so lovely.

Worth The Wait and The Money

Now we didn’t have to wait long to get in to Hickory’s in Rhos-on-Sea as we were invited, but once it is officially open then it will become like the one in Chester, Hickory’s are extremely popular and last night it was packed with all the invited guests and the place is huge.

So if you are looking to visit them, my recommendation is book in advance, if you have an idea for a family night out, business meal or even a celebration, book it to avoid disappointment.

I’m certainly going to be going again, it’s always worth keeping to somewhere you know you can trust for its food and for its generous, polite and very helpful staff.

My only issues are the car park is quite dark and could do with a little more lighting and the same goes for the lower seating area, where we were seated in, it is a little dark to see your menu, but besides those, Hickory’s Smokehouse in Rhos-on-Sea is certainly the place to get a delicious meal that is certainly worth the money.

A great venue, superb staff, families and disabled catered for and there is even a cinema room for the kids, now how cool is that.

Check out Hickory’s Rhos-on-Sea on Facebook and on Twitter.
