Madness Made Their Mark on Rhyl – Review

It’s been an event that many had been talking about for a long time, the event that would see Rhyl, North Wales, become the hosts for the band Madness at the Rhyl Events Arena.

The day started at 4pm when the gates opened with a DJ getting the ever-growing crowd in the mood for the evening’s entertainment, followed by By The Rivers and then Chainska Brassika who got the crowd ready for Madness to hit centre stage.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen the Rhyl Events Area pack in so many people, around 5,000 people descended on the arena for the evening and everything ran smoothly for everyone that attended the event.

The Rhyl Events Arena had green metal “walls” constructed around the arena to stop people from just coming in to the arena to see the show for free, but there were many people who did sit on what I call the grassy knoll that was alongside the area.

Although the view from there was blocked slightly by one of the brick walls of the Events Arena, but at least they still got a chance to see and hear the support bands and later to see Madness perform.

The two support bands that were the support for the evening were really good, with so many people in one place, sometimes it can be hard for the support bands to keep the attention of the big audience, but By The Rivers and Chainska Brassika certainly grabbed all their attention and got the the mass of people ready for the evening’s main attraction.

Once Madness came to the stage the crowd went wild, with them performing all the classic tracks that the fans love, whilst I was walking through the crowd, old and young were enjoying the gig, there were loads in their fezzes, much like an eighth Doctor Who convention, and the Grandslam T-Shirts as well as the madness hats that the band were wearing.

Madness performed pop classics such as “House of Fun“, “Baggy Trousers” and “My Girl“, iconic songs that were guaranteed to draw the crowd in and get them dancing and singing along. The band also be performed some of their new songs, their first new recordings in three years.

The overall atmosphere of the evening was truly electrifying with everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves, Suggs and the rest of the band certainly still have what it takes to not only perform live but also bring an audience of all ages to a dancing frenzy.

Madness had said, “Come see, come see! The world’s strongest band perform incredible feats live! Marvel as Madness lift an enormous set of polished pop songs high in the air, single-handed! The UK’s biggest open-air tour ever!” and they didn’t fail to deliver

What a superb night and what a stellar performance from Madness and the support acts, with Madness putting on such an amazing show, it shows that Rhyl can put on a brilliant gig for even the big known bands, so let’s hope that even more bands come to our town and show us what they can do live.

Travelling Near and Far for Madness at Rhyl

Let’s not forget that the thousands of people that attended the afternoon weren’t just from Rhyl and the sounding towns, people from all areas of the UK had travelled to see the iconic band play Rhyl, with many coming over from Liverpool and Manchester to enjoy the night.

This all goes to show that Rhyl can be a great focal point for gigs, with people travelling that extra distance to spend a night singing, dancing and enjoying a fantastic evening together.

An unforgettable night that if you didn’t see it you missed out on one heck of an amazing gig that will certainly be kept in the fond hearts and memories of all those in Rhyl for a very long time.

It’s gigs like this that show what out town can do and we need so many more bands to come along to the arena and put on gigs that pull in the crowds, the big acts that pull in crowds at stadiums, Madness showed everyone what Rhyl can do, Rhyl has been buzzing all day with people talking about the event.

Jade sent us this brilliant video that her cousin took at the gig, Jade said she’s at the back dancing, great seeing everyone having so much fun.

So please events organisers, get those bands coming to Rhyl and let’s get the town rocking more often.

Local Boy in the Madness Tour 2015 Programme

Before I finish with Madness, I have to mention a local boy has also graced the Madness Tour 2015 Programme as one of the bands mascots.

Cai has been very lucky to see Madness live and dance on stage with them and Benidorm actor, Johnny Vegas, he has also danced with the Manchester Ska Foundation and is one of the MSF Ska Army, Mad Hat Ska and Glam 69.

In September 2013 Cai was offered a global modelling contract with Dr Martens.

Here at Blazing Minds we would like to give a big congratulations to Cai for what he has achieved at such a young age and we just know that he is going to be going a long way with the talents that he has.
