Following on from The New Icons last single ‘She cries herself to sleep’,  they now bring you their first brand new single for 2021 ‘Persistence of Memory’.  

With ‘she cries herself to sleep’, it was a melodic ballad, whereas, The New Icons ‘Persistance of Memory’ is far from a ballad.  In fact, it is an amazing upbeat rock track.  Blending the clock ticking at the beginning, and getting in straight into the beat before bringing in this fantastic sound from this fantastic band.  

I am absolutely loving this track. It is definitely a song that sticks with you, and you won’t get bored of listening to the track over and over again.  Each time I have listened to it, I am amazed by the great lyrics.  

Unlike the 2020 debut album, Electric Ghost Graffiti, and subsequent single releases, which is effectively a solo effort by Anthony Hart, this brand new track was co written.  The other composers of ‘Persistence of Memory’ are James Taylor, who features on guitar, Kevin McKay on drums and John Riley.  

You can tell from the beginning of this track how much a great collaboration this track has been, and the effort put in is phenomenal.  From lyrics to instruments, to production this track is A class.  This track does remind of certains bands of times gone by. Bands such as elements from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, bit of Pink Floyd,  to more modern day bands such as Oasis and more recently PVRIS.  

The New Icons are a force to be reckoned with, as going from a ballad such as theirs ‘she cries herself to sleep’, then to have an upbeat rock track ‘Persistence of Memory’, is true genius, not just of the songwriting, but in the music itself.  This track is 3:32 minutes long, and have to say it is a fantastic 3:32 minutes of track.  

‘Persistance of Memory’ is The New Icons latest single that will form part of an ambitious idea of a ‘concept EP’ to be released soon titled ‘A Dalian Dream’.  

I, for one, am really looking forward to hearing this. With the last two singles to go by in particular, these guys are the ones to look out for right now.  

I rated this track as a 5 out of 5 for a fantastic follow up track to the amazing ‘she cries herself to sleep’.
